Frequently Asked Questions
On iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions → CleanTube, and toggle it on. Make sure to also grant it permission for youtube.com.
On Mac: Open Safari → Settings (Cmd+,) → Extensions tab → check the box next to CleanTube.
CleanTube includes a separate Content Blocker extension for ad blocking. You need to enable it separately:
On iPhone/iPad: Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions → CleanTube Content Blocker → toggle on.
On Mac: Safari → Settings → Extensions → check CleanTube Content Blocker.
Both extensions need to be enabled for the full CleanTube experience. The Content Blocker handles ad blocking, while the main extension handles UI customization.
Try these steps in order:
- 1. Check both extensions are enabled — CleanTube needs both the Safari Extension and the Content Blocker turned on.
- 2. Check website permissions — Make sure CleanTube has permission to access youtube.com (Settings → Safari → Extensions → CleanTube → youtube.com should be allowed).
- 3. Refresh the page — After enabling the extension, reload the YouTube page.
- 4. Close and reopen Safari — Sometimes Safari needs a full restart to load extension changes.
- 5. Check for updates — Make sure you have the latest version of CleanTube from the App Store.
If the issue persists, contact us at support@cleantube.app with a description of the problem and your device/iOS version.

Changes take effect immediately — just refresh your YouTube page in Safari to see them applied. You can also use the popup in Safari's toolbar for quick toggles without leaving the browser.
